It is rare that we get three of the same item into the shop at the same time and with all the snow days lately we thought it would be fun to have a friendly little competition. The secretary showdown! Alicia, Lara and I each chose a secretary to makeover. We posted the before and after photos over on our Facebook page and asked our fans to vote for there favorite!
The white one brought the most votes so we will start with that one!
This make over was done by the talented Alicia Zeigler. It was painted with Fusion Mineral Paint in the color Limestone. She waxed the entire piece using Fusion beeswax finish. The beeswax finish is super easy to apply and goes on like butter.
Alicia added some adorable black and white fabric details to the knobs and The little drawers inside the secretary. The fabric was purchased from our friendly neighbors at The Sewing Studio. It was applied using mod podge. Unfortunately we forgot to get a close up photo of the fabric before this piece sold, but it really was adorable!
Our Facebook fans also loved this little gem painted by Kerri Carter. That would be me!
The outside of this piece was painted with CeCe Caldwell’s Beckley Coal and finished with Endurance. Endurance is a great liquid finish that is easily applied with a foam brush. The inside of the secretary and the knobs were painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Duck Egg and finished with clear soft wax. There are many many brands of chalk type paints on the market right now and as you can see, it’s ok to try different brands. Beautiful results can be achieved with all of them so don’t be afraid to try something new! This piece also sold as soon as it hit the showroom floor 🙂
Let’s not forget our daring Lara Blair whose creativity never ceases to amaze me. Our Facebook fans loved that her piece was different and unique!
After removing the broken top piece, Lara started with CeCe Caldwell’s Thomasville Teal then she tried something completely different. Recently CeCe Caldwell came out with an amazing stain plus finish in one product. Lara used the Hickory stain and finish over the entire piece. As you can see, she just stained right over the old finish on the drawers giving them a fresh darker finish. She also applied the stain right over the paint giving it a beautiful aged look. The knobs were painted with Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black. Her piece did not photograph as well as the others and is really stunning in person! If you have a chance stop by the shop and see it!
We loved reading your comments and if you did not get a chance to vote for your favorite on Facebook please let us know in the comments right here on the blog! Which one is your fav?
